Like so many other pet owners, I couldn't bear to throw away the tuffs of fluff removed from my Chows brush after grooming. It was so soft, so light and the color was unsurpassed by any other natural fiber I had ever seen.
Watching me clean out the brush and gently storing away the massive amounts of fur, my husband just had to ask what I doing. I explained that it was simply too precious to just throw away and that some day I was going to learn to spin it into yarn.
The next day my husband went out on his lunch hour and bought me my first wheel. Thirty minutes behind the wheel, I was hooked on spinning!
Having a part of Karly with me always was so comforting that it occurred to me others may benefit from such a service.
Samples were gathered from groomers and breeders across the country for every available breed. Extensive experimentation and re-designing spinning techniques were rewarded with the ability to spin just about any kind or length of fur without blending.
Since 2001, VIP Fibers has grown at a pleasant pace. To date, we have hand spun over 1,858 POUNDS* of pet fiber, producing 1,911,810 yards* of precious Fur-Ever Keepsake yarn!

VICTORIA I. PETTIGREW: BIO: Victoria was born in Upstate New York in 1958. Her 30 year career background has been in business, advertising and graphic design. She has one married son, Kenneth, currently serving in the U.S. Army. She is happily married to Stephen, a U.S. Patent Attorney Spinstress/Knitter/Weaver All work is hand done by Victoria, from carding to spinning, to creating your special finished keepsake. We do not sub-contract any of work. On occasion, when the back log is large, Stephen will help out with the carding of raw fiber. We do not sub-contract work out. BOO BOO BEAR PETTIGREW: Founder Last, but not least, is our founder, BooBoo. This precious Chow Chow was a wedding anniversary gift from Stephen to Victoria and the whole reason for VIP Fibers. She is the Alpha in our busy pack of 4 dogs somehow manages to keep law and order amongst all of them.
